A classic from southern Catalonia, the vermouth Vermut de Falset Negre is made by the Agrícola Falset- Marçà coop in its impressive Falset headquarters, a modernist building designed by the Catalan architect Cèsar Martinell, a disciple of the legendary Antoni Gaudí.
This Spanish red vermouth is produced from a base wine of the local varieties Grenache and Carignan, macerated with a selection of 120 botanical plants and aromatic herbs in huge wooden vats for a minimum of 12 months. After that, this vermouth from Tarragona is aged in French oak barrels for 3 years.
Dark red with some purple glints, the vermouth Vermut de Falset Negre is spicy and intense on the nose, carrying herbs de Provence, sweet spices, absinthe and tobacco leaf. The palate of this red vermouth balances the bitter and sweet elements quite nicely, with, again, Mediterranean herbs and a long, spicy finish.
