Details

The legendary R. López de Heredia-Viña Tondonia winery presents the new vintage of Viña Gravonia, an outstanding Spanish white wine from La Rioja which has attained a kind of a cult status over the last years.

A varietal Viura (Macabeo), it is sourced from a single vineyard planted with vines 45 years old on average.

The grapes were meticulously harvested, destemmed and fermented in big oak vats. After that, this white wine from La Rioja was aged in used American oak barrels for 4 years.

Finally, Viña Gravonia 2015 was clarified with egg whites, bottled unfiltered in November 2021 and kept in the cellar for a few more years before its commercial release.

This internationally renowned Crianza white wine has a significant ageing potential.

Pair with white meat, baked fish recipes, creamy cheeses or pasta.

Appearance

The white wine Viña Gravonia is medium yellow with some amber tinges.

Nose

This varietal Viura is remarkably complex and elegant. Dry fruit, aromatic herbs, some lactic nuances and a panoply of spices, white flowers, honey, royal jelly and flowers.

Palate

Compared to the previous 2014 vintage, this wine from bodega R. López de Heredia-Viña Tondonia shows more ripeness and concentration. Bone fruit, underbrush, bitter herbs, citrus, jasmine... A nice complexity.  Very good acidity and a long finish with some mineral and earthy suggestions.

Our personal opinion

The superbly crafted Viña Gravonia 2015 is a first class Rioja white that will presumably have a long life in the bottle.

Gravonia!!
Value
This wine simply puts to shame dozens of Burgundies premier crus - and some GCs. Delicate, fresh, honeyed, very long on the palate.
