Produced by Bodegas Lan, Viña Lanciano Reserva is a blended Spansih red wine made from estate-grown grapes sourced from from Viña Lanciano, a 72-hectare vineyard with pebble soils situated on a bend of the Ebro river, on the border between Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa, in the heart of DOCa Rioja.
Selected from over-30-year-old vines, the Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuela varieties benefited from the exceptional climatic conditions of the year 2016 in La Rioja, which resulted in some wonderfully ripe and healthy grapes.
The grapes were fermented in truncated cone-shaped stainless steel tanks, with a long maceration and frequent pump-overs aimed at extracting colour and tannin.
After that, this red wine from La Rioja was transferred into Tronçais French oak barrels, where it went through malolactic fermentation and was aged for 14 months.
Then the red wine Viña Lanciano Reserva 2017 went into Caucasian oak barrels, where it matured for a further 7 months before being bottled.
Finally, this reserva red wine was kept for 18 months in the bottle before being released onto the market.
Pair with meat carpaccios, cold cuts, cured cheese and roast recipes.
