We are honoured to present the 2001 vintage of the red wine Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva.
A traditional blend, this legendary Spanish red wine is made from 70% Tempranillo, 20% Grenache (locally called Garnacho) and a 5% Graciano and Mazuela (aka Carignan). The grapes were harvested from October 15th 2001 to the 29th.
This blended red wine from La Rioja of bodega R. López de Heredia - Viña Tondonia was fermented in oak vats 150+ years of age. After that, the red wine Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva 2001 was aged for 10 years in used oak barrels, with two annual rackings. Clarified with egg whites, it was bottled in July 2012.
Finally, it was kept for a minimum of 10 years in the bottle before being released onto the market.
Despite drinking fabulously now, this Gran reserva red wine from DOCa Rioja will keep improving for years. Decant 2 hours before drinking.
This is one of the world’s best red wines.

Appearance | The red wine Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva is medium ruby with a brick-coloured rim. |
---|---|
Nose | The subtlety and depth of this blend of Tempranillo, Grenache, Mazuela and Graciano are off the charts. Havana cigars, exotic spices, sour berries, damp leaves and underbrush, with a dash of black truffles and sea salt, with some earthy and leathery overtones. |
Palate | This red wine from bodega R. López de Heredia - Viña Tondonia is marvelously evocative, velvety- textured and richly layered, with amazing precision and detail, a seamless texture lifted by a salty note and a distinguished acidity, ending with a spellbinding chalky note. |
Our personal opinion | The wine Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva 2001 is just one step away from perfection. |
