Arran

Arran

The only distillery on the Island of Arran.

Founded in 1993 by the former general manager of Chivas Brothers’, Harold Currie, the Arran distillery is located near Lochranza, on the northern part of the Isle of Arran, in the west coast of Scotland. The distillery, which sources its water from the nearby Loch na Davie, is the only legally registered whisky producer on the island, and also the first since the Lagg distillery was closed in 1837.

Spirit production at the facilities of the Arran distillery began exactly on August 17th 1995. Over the following years, the brand meticulously developed its core product range, which currently includes both Single Malt and Blended Whisky matured in different kinds of containers, from traditional Sherry oak casks to Bordeaux or Rioja oak barrels, as well as old Sauternes, Amarone or Calvados casks. Despite Arran whisky being typically non-peated, in 2010 the company launched its first peated bottling, called Machie Moor.

Due to the quick commercial and critical success of the Arran whisky, the company decided to build a second facility in Lagg, on the northern tip of the island, to meet increasing demand. Operative since April 2019, the combination of the two distilleries has made Arran one of the most visited whisky producers in Scotland, with around 200,000 visitors a year.
