Talisker

Talisker

The most characterful of all Scotch Whiskies.

The Talisker distillery (from the Old Norse “Thalas Gair”, meaning “sloping rock”) was founded in 1830 by the brothers Hugh MacAskill of Eigg and Kenneth MacGaskill in the island of Skye. Located in the western part of Scotland, the island of Skye, the largest of the Inner Hebrides, is a ruggedly beautiful land of derelict castles and old legends that bring to mind ancient feuds between clans and images of celtic mythology.

The remote location of the distillery Talisker, in the midst of a barren plain exposed to the fury of the Atlantic winds and the effects of maritime storms, is responsible for the unique and intensely flavoured character of the Talisker whisky, defined by a saline and smokey profile that sets it apart from most Scotch Whiskies.

The prestigious Single Malt whiskies of Talisker are produced with high-quality malted barley and pure peated water sourced from the Cnoc nan Speireag (Hawk Hill) spring. The spirit is distilled three times – a procedure traditionally associated with Irish whisky, not Scotch – and then aged in ex Borubon American oak casks, which balance the salty and smokey notes of the Talisker whisky with some pleasantly sweet and spicy notes. The brand is currenly owned by Diageo, a British multinational alcoholic beverage conglomerate.
