Tomatin
A Highland Whisky producer with over 100 years of history.
Located in Tomatin, near Inverness, the Tomatin distillery was founded in 1897 under the name Tomatin Spey Distillery Co Ltd. During the first years of its history, it had just 2 copper stills, capable of producing around 225,000 litres of alcohol per year. As years went by and demand for Scotch whisky increased exponentially, particularly after the Second World War, the production facility continued to grow and expand until, in 1974, Tomatin became the world’s largest malt distillery, with 23 copper stills and a production capacity of 12,5 milion liters of alcohol per year. Nowadays, 12 of the 23 stills remain in operation.
Bought by the Japanese Takara Shuzo company in 1986, the Tomatin distillery produces an interesting collection of Single Malt and Blended Whiskies. Smooth, fruity, unpeated and richly aromatic, the Tomatin whisky showcases the most convivial and inviting side of the whisky from Highlands.
