Abadía de Poblet

Abadía de Poblet

A brand of Grupo Codorníu, Abadia de Poblet is the only winery in Catalonia located within the premises of a historic monument.

Owned by Grupo Raventós Codorníu, the vineyards of Abadia de Poblet are inside the walls of the Cistercian Monastery of Poblet, one of Catalonia’s most important historic monuments. Founded in the XIIth century, the Monastery of Poblet has a long winemaking tradition directly linked to Burgundy, the birthplace of the Cistercian Order.

Farmed following sustainable techniques, the vineyards of bodega Abadia de Poblet are mostly planted with local varieties, such as the indigenous Trepat and Garrut (local for Monastrell), as well as some Grenache, Ull de Llebre (aka Tempranillo) and Syrah. As for the white varieties, the winery grows basically old vines Macabeo, with a small extension of Chardonnay as a memento of its Burgundian origins.

Marketed under the DO Conca de Barberà seal, the wines from bodega Abadia de Poblet are traditionally vinified in stainless steel tanks and aged in oak barrels.
