Altavins

Bodega Altavins is a little project started in 2001 by three passionate winelovers: Joan Bautista Arrufí, Jordi Casadó and Xavier Arraya. Based in Batea, a town in the province of Tarragona belonging to the Terra Alta DO, they produced their first wines in the year 2000. In 2003, they inaugurated their own winery, where they currently produce around 120,000 bottles per year.

The Altavins winery owns and supervises a total amount of 14 hectares of vineyards, at altitudes between 350 and 550 metres above sea level. White Grenache is by far the most important grape variety in the region. Besides, the winery also grows Grenache, Hairy Grenache, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. They have a good amount of old vines, and the winery is committed to environmentally friendly procedures.

The varieties are separately vinified using state-of-the-art technology. That fact, together with the winemakers' expertise, has already earned the company several awards and good scores in several prestigious wine magazins. For instance, the red wine Domus Pensi Altavins 2008 got a 90-point Parker score, won a Gold Medal in the Berliner Wine Trophy and was chosen “Gran Vi de Guarda de la Terra Alta” in the Terra Alta wine fair.
