Bodega Tesalia

The Andalusian winery Bodega Tesalia was born out of the passion of Englishman Richard Golding for the sunny, unspoiled mountains of Cádiz. Thus, in 2010, after many visits to the region, Mr. Golding, who has held managing positions in several international companies, decided to start a winery in the area. A family business, the winemaking operations of Bodega Tesalia are directed by Mr. Golding's daughter, Andrea, who helds a Master in Enology and Viticulture. Like his father, she is convinced that the region of Cádiz has the potential for producing top-quality wines.

The facilities of Bodega Tesalia are on the foothills of Sierra de Grazalema (Grazalema mountain range), near the historic town of Arcos de la Frontera, within the VT Cádiz designation. The Tesalia estate has 106 hectares in total. The winery area comprises 22 hectares, 11 of which are planted with grapevines. The rest is dedicated to farmland and horse breeding. Tempered by the influence of two seas, the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean, the vineyards have clayey soils with a deeper layer of chalk, a terroir which provides the best conditions for growing high-quality grapes.

The varieties grown by Bodega Tesalia include the local Tintilla de Rota, and the international varieties Petit Verdot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. They are meticulously farmed, with leaf pullings and cluster thinnings performed to ensure a perfect ripening. The grapes are picked up at night, and harvest season can last up to two weeks, in order to ensure that every grape is collected at the right moment. The varieties are separately vinified, and once the blends have been made the Tesalia red wines are usually aged in French oak barrels for variable periods of time.
