Bodegas Breca

Bodegas Breca

Jorge Ordóñez crafts some formidable Grenache wines from some of Spain's oldest grapevines.

Knowing that the rugged, dry region of Aragón houses some of the world's oldest Grenache vineyards, Jorge Ordóñez founded Bodegas Breca to produce wines which are defined by the unique characteristics of its terroir. Based in Munébrega, a town near the city of Calatayud, Bodegas Breca winery owns several hectares of some very old vines Grenache, some of which are almost centenary. Planted in slate soils over a desolate, dry area, the plants grow under an unmerciful climate, with freezingly cold winters and excruciatingly hot summers.

The grapes are always manually harvested, and selected both on site and in the cellar. The winemaking procedures are extremely meticulous and, over the last years, have seen a decrease in the use of oak.

As a result, the wines by Bodegas Breca are among Robert Parker's Spanish favourite ones.

Besides Bodegas Breca, the Jorge Ordóñez Group also includes the brands Jorge Ordóñez & Co., based in Málaga, Bodegas La Caña in Rías Baixas, Bodegas Avancia in Valdeorras, Bodegas Volver in Alicante, La Mancha and Jumilla, and Bodega Venta Morales in Castilla.
