Bodegas Castaño

The wines of Bodegas Castaño are an homage to the Yecla terroir and to the Monastrell grape, the region's flagship variety.

After a long quest for finding the best Monastrell vines which would allow to produce quality wines in a region up to then mostly known for plonk, Ramón Castaño Santa, the founder of Bodegas Castaño winery, released his first wines in the 1980s. In 2002 the facilites were upgraded for the first time. Nowadays, Bodegas Castaño uses state-of-the-art technology and features among the most technollogically advanced wineries in the region.

Locted in Yecla, in the southern Spanish province of Murcia, the company owns 500 hectares of vineyards divided in four areas. Each part is planted with the best suited varieties, as well as with some experimental ones, considering the respective climate differences and soil compositions.

The wines by Bodegas Castaño have received numerous international awards and accolades. The red wines are made mostly from Monastrell, ocasionally complemented with Alicante Bouschet, locally known as Grenache Tintorera.

As for the white wines, they are produced from Macabeo and Chardonnay.
