Bodegas H. Calvente

Bodegas H. Calvente

The wines produced by Bodegas H. Calvente benefit from the unique character of the high-altitude vineyards of the Granada mountain range.

Based in the town of Jete, Granada, Bodegas H. Calvente is the dream project of Horacio Calvente. Proudly displaying the DOP Vino de Calidad de Granada label, the wines are produced from several plots scattered over a rugged mountainous terrain.

Pago La Guindalera is a parcel with schist, calcareous and clayey soils, at altitudes between 700 and 1000 metres. Pago Castillejos, at an altitude of 850 metres, has some steep slopes up to 40%, and some schist and clayey-limestone soils. Both places have a Continental microclimate with a Mediterranean influence. The mountain temperatures are moderated by the sea breeze, which allows the grapes to ripen slowly and steadily.

Bodegas H. Calvente winery grows local and international varieties. As for the red ones, we find Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Grenache. As for the white grapes, the most planted are Viognier and Moscatel de Alejandría. This latter variety is the ingredient of Calvente Guindalera, a white wine made from over 120-year-old vineyards which features in Neil Beckett's book "The 1001 Wines You must taste before you die".
