Casa Gran del Siurana
Bodega Casa Gran del Siurana makes deep and powerful wines in the heart of historic Priorat.
A brand of Grupo Perelada, the Casa Gran del Siurana winery has its headquarters in a three-hundred year old country house called Casa Gran. Situated in Bellmunt del Priorat, at the southern end of DOQ Priorat, the Casa Gran (“Big House”) was formerly inhabited by the Carthusian monks, who were responsible for introducing grape cultivation in the region from its native Provence almost a millennium ago.
Located in a flat area with lime and clay soils on the left side of the Siurana river, the Casa Gran estate has an extension of 12.4 hectares, 6.6 of which are under vine. The varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot, planted from 2000 onwards.
The Casa Gran del Siurana winery also sources its grapes from La Fredat, a 38-hectare estate with 9.38 hectares dedicated to growing grapes. Planted on steep slopes with slate soils, the varieties are Grenache, Samsó (Carignan), Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, the oldest of which are 25 years old.
Since 2007, the wines of bodega Casa Gran del Siurana are made in the old building of Cooperativa Agrícola de Bellmunt. Produced in a traditional Priorat style, the wines are dark, brooding and powerful, with profound mineral notes, remarkable freshness and top-notch acidity.
