Celler de l'Encastell
A family-run winery in the very heart of Priorat.
Created by the Castellví Figuerola family in 1999, Celler de l’Encastell is located in Porrera, one of Priorat’s historic villages. The project was born with the aim of producing wines that convey the ancestral, rugged spirit of the land.
The Celler de l’Encastell estate comprises three vineyards. The oldest one is Mas d’en Caçador, a 2-hectare plot at 500 metres of altitude. Built on Priorat’s trademark slate soils, it is planted with 75 to 100-year-old Grenache and Samsó (Carignan) vines. The second one is called Mas d’en Ferran, a 5-hectare vineyard where the winery grows the international varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, as well as some Grenache. The youngest one, Els Arbres, is a 1-hectare plot planted in 2008 with the varieties Merlot and Carignan.
The winemaking facilities of Celler de l’Encastell are located in an old townhouse in the historic centre of Porrera. Conveniently renovated in order to accommodate cutting-edge winemaking equipment, in 2010 the building was added a top floor, which currently serves as the vinification area. The wines are aged in French and American oak barrels situated in the bedrock cellar.
The production of Celler de l’Encastell ranges from 25,000 to 30,000 bottles per year.
