One of Catalonia’s biggest wine coops.

The Cellers Unió cooperative was founded in 1942 in the city of Reus with the name Unión de Cooperativas del Campo de la Província de Tarragona. Its long and storied history has run parallel to the evolution of the wine trade in south Catalonia.

in 1954, after the legal creation of DOQ Priorat, the coop bottled its first Priorat bottle with the official seal. In 1970, the company began to sell its products abroad, and 6 years later its first wines with the DO Tarragona seal, approved shortly before, hit the market. In the eartly 2000s, Cellers Unió actively participated in the creation of the DO Montsant, and in 2008 the company presented its first organic wines. Nowadays, more than eight decades after its foundation, Cellers Unió is a well-established company whose products are sold in more than 30 countries across the world.

The Cellers Unió cooperative currently groups together 186 smaller coops, 20 of which have their own winemaking facilities. Its activities span across one Denominació d’Origen Qualificada (DOQ) and 5 Denominacions d’Origen (DO), covering 4,400 hectares of vineyards in total. Around 20,000 families in south Catalonia and Majorca are members of Cellers Unió winery, whose products are sold through more than 25 different brand names.

From its beginnings, the Cellers Unió coop has worked to dignify the agricultural activity of farm and foodworkers and to preserve the natural environment for future generations. To fulfill that aim, the cooperative has made its stated mission to promote the principles of sustainable farming among its members, providing them with technical and logistical support, as well as with legal consultancy and assistance.
