Eduardo Peña

Eduardo Peña

Bodega Eduardo Peña makes wines that showcase the traditional character of the Ribeiro.

Located in DO Ribeiro, on the western side of the Galician province of Ourense, the estate-owned vineyards of Bodega Eduardo Peña occupy an area of 10 hectares. Situated at 250 metres of altitude, the double trellis-trained vines are planted on mild slopes with slate, sandy and rocky soils. The area has a mild climate with an Atlantic influence. Winters are mildly cold, and the hot summers are tempered by the influence of the nearby Miño River, which flows on its way to the Castrelo de Miño dam. Rainfall is 800 to 1,000 mm per year.

With stunning vistas over the Ribeiro region, the facilities of Eduardo Peña winery are partially buried and nicely integrated in the surrounding landscape. Because of that, the winery is able to process the hand-harvested grapes through gravity, thus minimizing the risk of fruit damage. The fact that the building is located underground also allows it to maintain a constant temperature of 14ºC-15ºC throughout the whole year. Furthermore, there is a natural ventilation system which facilitates air flow, thus significantly reducing energy consumption.

The wines from Bodega Eduardo Peña are produced exclusively from Galician native varieties. The white wine varieties have average yields between 6,000 and 8,000 Kilograms per hectare, while the red wine varieties yield between 3,000 and 5,000 kilograms per hectare.

Named after the company, Eduardo Peña is the best known, most sought-after wine of the winery. This blended Spanish white wine showcases the best qualities of the white wines from DO Ribeiro.
