Gil Pejenaute

Aragones winemaker salvaging precious vineyards in a remote area of Campo de Borja.

Bodega Gil Pejenaute is the wine project of Javier Gil Pejenaute, an Aragonese winemaker born in Tabuenca, a small village in DO Campo de Borja.

The scion of a family of wine growers with deep roots in the region, Mr. Gil Pejenaute worked for over two decades as an oenologist – including a long stint at famed bodega Palacios Remondo from La Rioja – before returning home in 2018 to start his personal wine project, bodega Gil Pejenaute. Focused on the production of Grenache wines, the winery currently owns 10 hectares of mostly old bushvines, planted at an altitude around 700 metres above sea level.

The wine catalogue of the Gil Pejenaute winery is comprised of three reds made in a powerful yet elegant style: the entry-level Tabuca, a village wine, and two single vineyard wines, named Las Paradas and Pilar del Cerro. The wines of Gil Pejenaute are vinified in oak barrels and ceramic eggs. Yearly production is around 25,000 bottles.
