Gratavinum
The Gratavinum winery is situated in the Priorat D.O.Q. of Spain crafting Spanish red wines from old Grenache and Cariñena grapevines which are very characteristic of their terroir.
The Gratavinum winery is located in the Priorat D.O.Q. of Spain was founded by the Cusiné family as a project to craft the most traditional wines from Penedés. This family also owns the Parés Baltà winery in Penedés and the Dominio Romano winery in the Ribera del Duero. The name “Gratavinum” originates from the word “Gratallops” which is the municipality in Priorat, Catalonia where this winery is located, combined with the Latin word “vinum” which means wine.
Following the Cusiné family philosophy of winemaking, all of the wines by the Gratavinum winery have been certified organic since 2004 and this winery pays utmost respect to the environment and biodiversity of the region. Besides the fact that this winery uses no pesticides of herbicides, they also do not water the grapevines so that the grapevines naturally grow deeper and more resistant roots during dry summer months. This helps the wine to achieve its particular character from the soils of this micro-terroir. The Gratavinum winery has 17 hectares of grapevines hidden in the Priorato Mountains in terraced plots of rich licorella slate soils. This terroir is marked by compact clay sediment that have formed over centuries in this region, giving their wines a unique minerality from the Priorat terroir.
The Gratavinum winery crafts wines from the classic grapes of this region, Grenache and Cariñena, along with two very well adapted foreign grape varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. The enologists at Gratavinum have adapted their winemaking to include new techniques and systems to craft organic wines that present the maximum expression of their grapes.
