Terroir al Límit

Terroir al Límit

Terroir al Límit is one of the most prestigious wineries in Priorat.

Bodega Terroir al Límit was created in 2003 by Dominik A. Huber and Eben Sadie, a German and a South African. Both fell in love with Priorat after working, respectively, at Mas Martinet and Cims de Porrera. Later on, they partnered with the local winemaker Jaume Sabaté, who gave them some precious advice concerning where to find the best vines and how to grow them.

The winemaking style of bodega Terroir al Límit has significantly evolved over the years. At first, the winery followed the so-called “New World” style, picking the grapes rather late, extracting a lot of colour and tannin from the grapes, and using a considerable amount of new oak. Very soon, though, winemaker Dominik Huber, which became the main responsible of the company after Mr. Sadie went back to his native South-Africa, understood that the style did not suit Priorat at all because of the sheer character and power of the local terroir. That realization lead to a sea-change in his winemaking approach. Harvesting the grapes earlier, he started to vinify them with the stems in ever bigger oak recipients, searching for a gentle infusion instead of the mere extraction of matter. In the end, the winery abandoned for good the use of any kind of wood.

The Terroir al Límit winery owns some of Priorat's best vineyards, which are farmed following organic and biodynamic procedures. Some of its wines have already achieved worldwide recognition. For instance, Les Manyes 2016, a varietal old-vines Grenache from a vineyard located over 700 metres above sea level, was given a 100-point Parker score in 2019.

In 2018, the Terroir al Límit winery released the first vintage of bodega Terroir sense Fronteres, its sibling project in the neighbouring DO Montsant.
