This young winemaker settle in Priorat to reconnect with his roots.

Despite being the son of a Priorat native, Mr. Xavi Pallejà had never visited the region until his winemaking and viticulture studies lead him to do so. Then, during the course of an internship in which he was able to experience first hand the tough realities of producing wine in one of the world's most demanding terroirs, he nonetheless felt the call of the land and decided to settle in Priorat to reconnect with his roots.

Situated in Bellmunt del Priorat, Finca de Les Aubagues is a 13-hectare vineyard populated mainly with over 60-year-old Carignan and 20-year-old Grenache vines, as well as some Cabernet Sauvignon and White Grenache. Grown amidst a Mediterranean landscape with an abundance of olive trees and aromatic plants at 290 to 400 metres of altitude, the vines are planted on slopes and terraces composed of the typical llicorella -aka slate- soils from Priorat.

A “Vi de Vila” (Village Wine) from Bellmunt del Priorat, the red wine Buxus de les Aubagues by Xavi Pallejà is vinified in a traditional manner. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks, after which the wine is transferred into big vats and new oak barrels, where it is matured for a period up to 12 months.
