The whisky Yamazakura Fine Blended is produced by the Sasanokawa Shuzo Company. Based in Fukushima, in the main island of Honshu, the firm has been producing sake and shochu since 1765. Almost two centuries later, in 1946, the Sasanokawa Shuzo Co, produced its first Japanese whisky.
The word Yamazakura is a combination of the words “Yama” – meaning “mountain” – and “Sakura” – “cherry tree” .- Likewise, this whisky from Japan was produced from a blend of several malt and grain whiskies, after which it matured in ex Bourbon casks for some years.
Amber coloured with some golden reflections, this malt and grain Japanese whisky is gently peaty and spicy on the nose, displaying aromas of Tahitian vanilla, candied orange rind, nutmeg, elderflower and fudge. The palate of the whisky Yamazakura Fine Blended is a tad unctuous, smooth and richly layered, with rich flavours of ripe pear, citrus and cereal, leading to a long, gently spicy finish.
